Anyone who knows me will tell you that I am not often speechless. But after watching Trump for an hour and 15 minutes in whatever the hell that just was, I am… without words or a clue. I cannot make the connection that the specimen I just witnessed at the microphone is actually the President of the United States.
He will obviously never “grow into” this office. As always, he came off today as ill-prepared, petulant, paranoid and with the maturity level of a college-sophomore frat boy.
He referred to the Senate Minority Leader as a “lightweight.” In discussing a “women’s business leaders” council with Canada, Trump said it was very important to him “and to my daughter Ivanka.” Thus implying that his daughter was elected or appointed to anything and that we should give a damn about what she cares about.
And while complaining about the press — which he did for the entire… damn… news… conference — he had the gall to say “I can handle a bad story better than anyone.” He then continued to prod reporters to ask him “nice” questions.
He did say one thing that is true.
“I don’t think there’s ever been a president, in a short period of time, who’s done what we’ve done.”
It’s hard to argue with that.
